COVID-19 • My Thoughts for Community Care

February 29, 2020

Goal: As citizens, our responsibility is to keep away from COVID-19 until an effective vaccine is developed and distributed; about 12 – 24 months from now.  This virus could easily overwhelm any regional health system and that is were the real chaos will occur.   Let us not do that.  So…….

1.  Relax.  Sleep well.  Eat well.  Have a beer if that’s your thing.  Why?  Your immune system is still your best line of defense.  Keep it in good working order.

2.  Relax.  You now know it is coming and will likely be near you some time in the next year, so get prepared.  You’ve got time.

3.  Relax.  You’ve done this preparedness stuff before.  Like the worst blizzard we’ve had but the internet will still be on!  The town may need to quarantine itself – no school, limited access to groceries and other services – so, again, pretend I just said their’s a blizzard coming and do that.

4. Relax.  The stock market is run by a bunch of emotional basket cases and always has been.  It does not represent the degree of physical danger you are in.  (Ps.  If you have cash on the sidelines or want to refinance your home – this is an awesome time to do some reallocation of your finances.)

5. Relax.  Yes, the federal government is doing a crap job at managing this, and in doing so, is stressing everyone out.  Fortunately, the States often have better systems and Massachusetts actually cares about getting Emergency Preparedness right.  I trust the Baker administration and the folks I’ve worked with in the past know what they are dealing with. They will make good decisions.

6. Relax.  Wash your hands properly, use sanitizers, stay home if you’re sick, get immunized, blah, blah, blah … you know this stuff.  Do it.

7. You know – freakin’ RELAX.  You’re ok.  Really.
