It seems likely hundreds of COVID-19 individuals are in our country. Indeed, it may be spreading somewhat ‘freely’ in certain areas. We don’t know because we basically are not testing yet. And finding one case of community acquired COVID-19 is like seeing one mouse in your home; there’s likely many, many more.
35,000 COVID-19 tests are currently being put into the field. EXPECT the number of COVID-19 cases to jump rapidly.
Also expect the news media to go ape feces as schools shut down, folks get sick and some die. Don’t go with them. A lot of folks benefit from your anxiety (Masks! – GRRrrrrr.).
Also, some countries benefit from freaking us out and will push every crap theory their pathetic underused imaginations can. Keep the litter out of the information stream. Go to state emergency preparedness personnel, folks that worked the H1N1 or Ebola out breaks in the past. Stay away from political actors especially at the federal level. They continue to treat this as a political event and are struggling to move to a true national emergency footing.
People will make honest mistakes and we all will need to make adjustments along the way. That is not a sign of incompetence. It is expected in such a fluid situation. Cut folks some slack if they are open, honest and are working to fix it.
This is going to take some time; months anyhow. Settle in. Don’t forget the beer. (If that’s your thing.)
